& Science!
Welcome to the Real World! The
School of Math and Science offers students a solid introduction to the
scientific process. Students will be engaged in multiple real life
experiences as they study the world of math and science. Teamwork and
camaraderie are encouraged as students participate in the many activities
offered. Students may choose to be a lab assistant, a chess club member,
or assist their family on a night of "wacky science" at our
quarterly Family Science Night.
Students will learn how to figure area and
perimeter as they design house plans, construct a budget as they plan a
vacation, and learn the principles of flight through hands-on experiments.
With study trips to places such as the
Orlando Science Center and Solar Energy Center, 4th grade brings math
& science to life!

Students explore the different ways
scientists look at life in the yearlong theme, "Inside, Outside,
Upside Down."
Students will travel back through time when
they study about the birth of our nation and the westward expansion. Then
they will travel through the vast frontier of the human body. Next they
will explore below the earth’s surface through the study of plate
tectonics. They will enjoy the world of space as they journey to the
Kennedy Space Center to spend a night camped near the Saturn V rocket or a
week at Space Camp.
All of these experiences coupled with practical
applications of mathematics and scientific principles will help them to
connect the past, the present, and the future.

Our yearlong theme, "Exploring the
Then and Now" will transport students back to early scientific
exploration where they will meet
the ultimate challenge: Develop their own experimental design to study the
connection between the scientist of yesterday and today.
They will study the latest in technology
including the ultraviolet observer, the Hubble space telescope, and the
on-going space missions. Students will be encouraged to think about the
past, explore the present, and wonder about the future.
