3-2-1 . . . Roll Tape! That's what it's all about in the WGMS-TV studio! Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth grade students from all four magnet schools can participate as a crew member in one of the most unique TV studios in Brevard County schools. Students fill out a job application, interview and are selected based on their academic performance, interest, and teacher recommendation.

Crew members learn about all facets of Television Production including pre-production, production, and post-production. They produce a daily news show which is aired into each classroom at GEMS. Crew members rotate on a weekly basis through each of ten jobs. These jobs are the same as any commercial broadcast studio. They include:

Director
Technical Director
Floor Director
Camera I Operator
Camera II Operator
Audio & Lighting Director
Teleprompter Operator
Anchor/Talent
Tape Operator
Production Assistant

But that's not all! Our talented and creative kids also produce commercials, public service announcements, and theme shows! They also write the scripts, gather the props, set pieces, costumes, music and actors. Using "GEMS dollars," the school currency, they earn an hourly wage and generate "GEMS" income by charging for announcements and production time for advertisements!
