in Arts & Cultures! In the school of Arts & Cultures at
Gardendale Elementary Magnet School, we believe all children have an
inherent curiosity about themselves and others. An understanding of global
diversity is critical to successful and productive citizens of the world.
Language is the conduit for peace and understanding. Exploration and
expression through the Arts are necessary for the development of our
society and to enhance the aesthetic qualities of our citizens.
The school of Arts and
Cultures, at Gardendale Elementary Magnet School, offers students
cultural
and artistic opportunities by extending the curriculum through the use of
art labs and art related jobs such as:
- photographers
- storytellers
- art assistants
- yearbook editors
Art shows and contests and a partnership
with the Brevard Cultural Alliance provide additional opportunities to
showcase student accomplishments. Visit our
Student Art Gallery!
The School of Arts and
Cultures participates in a program, entitled "The Artist in
Residence." This program is a collaborative effort between our full time
visual arts teacher, the Brevard Cultural Alliance, a local professional
artist and our students in grades 4 - 6. In this setting,
students have a unique opportunity to learn from an expert in the
"real-world" and gain insight into the visual arts as a career.
Diverse cultural
experiences are celebrated each quarter in our primary and intermediate
teams including: traditions, customs, crafts, art and of course the
culinary specialties of each country we study. Our Spanish speaking teacher- using a Language
Lab and Technology- teaches the rudiments of the Spanish language as well
as the rich Hispanic culture. Video teleconferencing software allows
students to communicate with students in Spanish speaking countries and
elsewhere around the world.
